Save the Manatee Club’s
Name a Manatee Summertime Fun(draiser)
Have you ever wanted to name a manatee? Are you passionate about sharing your love for our aquatic gentle giants with your friends and family? Are you interested in helping raise vital funding for manatee protection? Now is your chance – Save the Manatee Club’s Name a Manatee summertime fundraiser is here!
To kick-off the summer, starting June 20, 2016, you can enter to win the opportunity to name an endangered manatee who winters at Blue Spring State Park near Orange City, Florida.
Each season, Wayne Hartley, Save the Manatee Club’s Manatee Specialist, monitors manatees who visit the spring run. He identifies the manatees from their scar patterns. Sadly, many living manatees have been injured by watercraft and bear scars from these collisions. Some scars are also from entanglement with fishing lines and ropes. Other markings can be from natural causes, such as infections that have since healed. At some point, each Blue Spring manatee receives a name and is logged in the manatee research database.
There are currently manatees in need of a special name and we wanted to offer our wonderful supporters the opportunity to help! Your participation will help us name a manatee, spread awareness, and raise critically needed funding for our manatee research and conservation programs.
There is no purchase necessary to participate. All you have to do is create your fundraising page and share it on your social media (don’t forget to tag Save the Manatee Club!). This enters you in the drawing. From there, we hope you will join us in having fun throughout the summer raising funds and awareness for our manatee friends. Entries will be accepted through November 26, 2016 during Manatee Awareness Month. All entries will be placed into a random electronic drawing. The drawing will be held November 30, 2016. A Save the Manatee Club staff member will contact the winner by phone or email by December 15, 2016 Once the manatee name is chosen, we will announce the named manatee via our website, social media, and newsletters at the end of manatee season (in March or April 2017).
The fundraiser is limited to one entry per person, per fundraising page. Chances of winning are not contingent upon the amount of funds raised.
